Wikipedia Art Remix

For their contribution to Scott Kildall and Nathaniel Stern's "Wikipedia Art Remix", Sean Fletcher and Isabel Reichert re-wrote the bitter shouting match between the characters George and Martha from the second Act of Edward Albee’s iconic play “Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf”.  The rewritten dialogue incorporates highlights from the "Articles for Deletion" page of Wikipedia Art (please see also www.wikipediaart.org).

Wikipedia Art was a controversial intervention whereby artists Scott Kildall and Nathaniel Stern attempted to launch a Wikipedia entry called "Wikipedia Art" which discussed not only the entry itself but the use of Wikipedia as a possible venue for art.  The page was promptly deleted by Wikipedia administrators, but a detailed record of the intervention still exists.

Scott met Sean and Isabel through their mutual inclusion in the "oh, Maybe..." exhibition in Emeryville, CA in March 2009 and asked them to create a remix of his project. The resulting video (completed in June) recreates the scene from the movie version of the Albee play directed by Mike Nichols where Isabel assumes the role of Elizabeth Taylor, rigorously arguing for the deletion of the page while Sean assumes the role of Richard Burton, defending the project’s preservation.
Kildall and Stern exhibited the Wikipedia Art Remixes as part of their inclusion in the internet pavilion of the 2009 Venice Biennale.
